In the chronicle of the village of Proboštov (see the project Chronicle of Proboštov), on page 56, without providing a specific date, it states: "The communities in the parish purchased the land at Rösler’s Cross for a new cemetery because the old one was no longer suitable." Based on the timing of neighboring records, it can be inferred that the land purchase took place sometime between April and July 1902.

In the so-called Memorial Book, or the Parish Chronicle of Proboštov (kept in the Ústí nad Labem City Archives), written by local parish priests from 1677 or 1690 until 1933, it is recorded:

  • In March 1902, the affiliated municipalities purchased the land at Rösler’s Cross.
  • At the beginning of May 1906, the field was converted into a new cemetery.

The minutes of the Cemetery Commission 1906 - 1945 (stored in the Ústí nad Labem City Archives) record:

  • The ceremony for the opening of the cemetery took place on May 21, 1906.

In the Book of Grave Records 1907 - 1946 (also stored in the Ústí nad Labem City Archives), the following is written:

  • First burial of a child: December 1, 1907 (3 months old).
  • First adult burial: December 6, 1907.
  • The first burial in the cemetery’s first tomb took place on July 17, 1907: a 13-year-old girl named Langer from Suletice.

In the chronicle of the village of Proboštov, further references can be found on page 95, where the completion of the construction project of the water supply system in Proboštov on August 5, 1924, is mentioned, and on page 110, where the opening of the waterworks after its consecration on November 25, 1928, is recorded. The partial steps leading to its commissioning, including connections to individual houses, are described in various places. At the bottom of page 122, it states: "The administration of the cemetery under Chairman Wenzel Wunder from Řetoun has repeatedly requested that the municipality bring water through pipes to the cemetery so that it can be better cultivated and maintained. However, no agreement has yet been reached regarding the cemetery yard. The agreement was finally reached on the Feast of St. Joseph on March 19 (recognized by the society: 1933), which fell on a Sunday that year. The chairman of the cemetery administration invited the mayors and representatives of the communities of the entire parish to a meeting held at Gabriel's Inn."

Continuation at the top of page 123: "The municipality of Proboštov will provide water for 6,000 crowns, with the connection made at the Kutscher drying plant. The cemetery administration will build a 260-meter-long pipeline to the cemetery at its own expense, and the missing part will be covered by small contributions from the municipalities, possibly also through donations. The school principal is requesting an automatic pressure valve at the cemetery and a check valve on the water main connection for sanitary reasons. Both items were included in the minutes. Several companies submitted bids for the job, and the lowest-priced contractor was Funke, a local plumber and roofing contractor. Unemployed people from the parishes were invited to help with the work so they could earn some money, and the work proceeded quickly, so that water was already flowing within the first week. The Chronicle will report on whether the pipeline was beneficial and whether it will improve the appearance of the cemetery in due course. It should then become an ornament to the village and the whole parish. We'll see. On Palm Sunday, the water was already flowing." (Note: In 1933, Palm Sunday fell on April 9.)

A copy of the plan for the cemetery layout from 1905 is stored in the archives of the municipality of Malečov (the original is in the Ústí nad Labem City Archives):

However, the actual state of the cemetery corresponds to the plan (click to enlarge) made in 1981. It is likely that in the same year, a Register of Graves was prepared, which is kept and stored at the Municipal Office of Malečov. A precise survey of the cemetery conducted in 2024 can be found in the "Survey" section.

An interesting opportunity to compare the condition of the cemetery is provided by a photograph from the late 1950s to early 1960s. Time has affected not only the graves but has also allowed the uncontrolled growth of trees and shrubs.
