Rýdeč

The following text is taken from the file "Notes on the design of the municipal emblem and flag," which was prepared for the municipality of Malečov in 2020 by Stanislav Kasík for the Heraldic Office "Dauphin" in Roudnice nad Labem. The first written mention of the village of Rýdeč in historical sources dates back to 1 October 1407 in a record in the county records. Herbort of Ročov, nicknamed Kolovrat, guardian of the orphans of Benes of Kostomlat (formerly Benes Škopek of Dubá and Liběšice), bequeathed to Albert of Dubá and Liběšice, a crusader of the Order of German Knights, half of Liběšice and the corresponding villages. Liběšice was at that time the property of the Škopeks of Dubá and their coat of arms was a perch. Historians believe that this family instigated the foundation of Rýdeč and the surrounding villages of Řepčice and Řetoun.

The last of the Ron family to hold Liběšice was Jindřich Berka of Dubá in 1457. After him, Jindřich of Rabštejn acquired the farm in 1487 and sold it to the Lords of Gutštejn. In 1520, they sold Liběšice to Karel Dubanský of Duban.

In 1611, Emperor Rudolf II ceded Žitenice to Václav Vilém of Roupov for 7,000 Mieschen kopecks (Sedláček, Castles, XIV, 1923, p. 111 /Liběšice/, p. 369 /Žitenice/). Václav Vilém of Roupov became an important personality and one of the leaders of the Estates' Revolt in 1618-1620. After the defeat on the White Mountain he managed to flee the country. He was tried in absentia and sentenced to the loss of his throat, honour and property. When the Swedes invaded Bohemia in 1634, he reached the captured Litoměřice, where he died.

The record of the confiscation commission from April 1621 states that in addition to his honour and throat, he also lost the estates of Trnovany and Žitenice, where the village of Rýdeč ("Řídec", "Ritschen") is also mentioned. The estates were ceded to Volf Ilburk of Vřesovice, who sold them in 1633 to Albrecht von Wallenstein, Duke of Frýdlant. After his murder in Cheb in 1634, however, the estates were confiscated (Bílek, Confiscation 1, 1882, p. 469).

Topographical literature from the 18th and 19th centuries provides the following information about the village of Rýdeč:

In 1787 Rýdeč ("Ritschen") consisted of 50 houses. The village belonged to the manor of Ploskovice, which was owned by Christian August, Prince of Waldeck (Schaller, V., 1787, p. 303).
In 1833, the village of Rýdeč ("Rydeč", "Ritschen") was part of the manor of Ploskovice and Záhorany, including the estate of Svadov, in the possession of Leopold II, Archduke of Austria and Grand Duke of Tuscany. The village had 52 houses with 242 inhabitants and 1 mill. It was attached to Trebusin (St. Nicholas Church; Sommer, I., 1833, p. 351).
In 1848 Rýdeč ("Rydeč", "Ritschen") had 52 houses with 274 inhabitants. It belonged to the estate of Ploskovice, whose owner was Leopold II, Archduke of Austria and Grand Duke of Tuscany (Palacký, Description, 1848, p. 72).
Otto's dictionary lists Rýdeč ("Rydeč", "Ritschen") as a village with 54 houses and 258 inhabitants of German nationality (statistical data from 1890). The village was attached to Třebušín (St. Nicholas Church) and belonged to the governorate and political district of Litoměřice (UN XXII, 1904, p. 415).

Linguists interpret the meaning of the name of the village as follows: The name Rýdeč originated from the personal name Rýdek and meant Rýdek's court. The personal name Rýdek corresponded to the German personal name Rido, which came from the Middle High German term ritan - reiten (to ride a horse).
